New Web Access Client Features and Information
The Oracle Web Access Client (WAC) is a browser-based application that looks and performs similar to a desktop application. It provides access to various features of Oracle Collaboration Suite, including:
- Timebar view of calendar appointments and reminders, with direct access to the Oracle Calendar Web client for creating and editing meetings.
- Ability to manage email using drag-and-drop functionality, cascading menus, context menus, and resizable panes.
- Support for HTML text editing.
- Access to a Personal Address Book and the Corporate Directory.
Recommended Web browsers for the Web Access Client
- Internet Explorer (version 7 is recommended, but version 6 performs well in most situations)
- Mozilla Firefox
- NOTE: The Web Access Client should NOT be used with Safari browsers. Safari users may continue to use the regular Email and Calendar web clients available from the My Cal Poly Portal.
Personal preferences are stored on the server so you can access your mail through a secure interface on the supported browser of your choice.
The Timebar
The Timebar is located at the bottom of the Web Access Client (WAC) main window. It displays a portion of the day's calendar information in graphical format, and allows you to link directly to the Oracle Calendar Web client to view and schedule meetings.
The Timebar is always visible, regardless of which view you are using. By default, the Timebar displays your schedule in one-hour increments over a ten hour period; each hour is split into 15-minute sections.
The Timebar can be used to:
- View meeting information by moving the mouse pointer over booked time slots.
- Create and edit meetings using the Oracle Calendar Web client; click on the timebar to create a meeting.
- View meeting reminders.
Drag-and-Drop Functionality
Using the mouse, a message can be dragged to a folder or a folder can be dragged to a new location. When releasing the mouse button, the message is in its new folder, or the folder is in its new location.
Panes
The amin Web Access Client (WAC) interface consists of three panes of information:

- The Navigation pane: This pane displays the high-level groups into which information is organized; for example, Address Books and categories in the Contacts view, or mail folders in the Mail view.
- The List pane: This pane displays the contents of the Navigation pane group you are currently viewing, in list format.
- The Reading pane: This pane contains details about the item currently selected in the List pane. For example, in the Mail view, if you select a message summary in the List pane, the text of the message is displayed in the Reading pane.
The reading pane can be turned off, or positioned on the right or bottom of the window.
To resize a pane:
- Move the mouse pointer over a pane border until the pointer turns into a double-sided arrow.
- Click and drag the border to the position you want.
Context Menus
A context menu is a shortcut menu, usually opened by right-clicking an item. The menu contains commands specific to the item. The Web Access Client (WAC) provides various options available when right-clicking on an item.
To open a context menu for an item:
- On Windows and most UNIX-based platforms: Right-click the item.
- On Mac platforms: While holding down the Control key, click the item.
Address Book or Contacts folder
The Address Book is where contacts and distribution lists are stored. Contacts can include colleagues inside or outside of your organization. Information in a Contact can include business or personal information.
HTML format
HTML formatted messages allow the use of bulleted lists, different fonts and font sizes, text colors and highlights, paragraph alignment and more.
